Light and transparency: separate without dividing with Scrigno
This renovation project involving an apartment of around 130 m 2 in Genoa represented an opportunity for Scrigno to highlight the versatility of its Opening Systems in a prestigious residential context. Following an earlier project carried out by Andrea Orioli Architetto on the bathroom area, the practice focused its attention on the living area, with the goal of creating a bright and functional space.
Optimising light and space
The original apartment featured a traditional layout, with a windowless entrance hall, a living room and a dining room which were already joined, and a studio which was accessible from the entrance hall. The owners wished to maintain these functions but wanted to bring more light into the entrance hall and join the studio to the living room, while maintaining an office corner for working from home.
Trial: redefining spaces with the transparency of glass
In order to meet these needs, the space was completely opened up, allowing natural light to flood into the entrance hall through the glazed partition. The requested division of residential functions was provided through two main solutions: on the one hand, a custom bookshelf which separates the entrance hall from the dining room; on the other, the flush-fitting sliding Opening System with Trial pocket door system and its three glass door leaves which allows the studio to be closed off from the living area when required. The Trial solution allowed an opening of 2.70 metres to be achieved with little more than 1 metre of recess space for the door leaves, something that would not have been possible with other traditional solutions. The almost total transparency of the glass makes these divisions imperceptible, maintaining the visual unity of the space. What’s more, the office corner was positioned in a hidden area of the room, completely concealing its presence from the living room.
