Sergio Alberto Danese

Sergio Alberto Danese

Sergio Alberto Danese set up his own architecture practice in Milan in June 1990, which he immediately called 21architettura; the Studio is distinguished by an international spirit and develops residential architecture projects, offices and shops in Italy, France and Monaco.

Over time, his qualification for the profession in Italy has been accompanied by the acquisition of an A.I.A. Architect’s licence in the USA, in the State of New York, at the same time as the development of architectural consultancy for high-level brands in the fashion industry, from Armani to Prada and currently for Bally of Switzerland.

This has led him also to manage the construction of corporate projects in the USA and Hawaii, Malaysia, Russia in Moscow, Doha Qatar culminating with the Prada Transformer project in Seoul Design REM Koolhas. The professional experience of Sergio A. Danese has been supplemented over the years through multiple customers, project types and design approach philosophies, which are diverse in both the nature and in the culture of the Customers themselves and the geographical countries involved.

Today the studio has just inaugurated the renovation project of the Italian headquarters of Vaillant Group Italia Spa which, through the redefinition of the showroom spaces with a new morphology of the interior spaces and the creation of large outdoor windows to achieve complete synergy with the exterior space, has injected the building built in 1960 by architect Gardella new dynamism along with a dynamic and contemporary brand image.

In continuity with this project is the feasibility design of the new building “Center of Excellence“, an element of futuristic, environmentally-friendly architecture that abides by new energy management techniques of the urban building fabric. The practice also deals with the energy efficiency redevelopment of buildings, such as in the project of renovating an attic whose glass factory body stands out on the Brera district of Milan skyline, framed by a roof garden and the 360° usability of the Lombardy Region’s mountainous geography, a natural backdrop for the new towers that are changing the city skyline of Milan.

The practice is currently engaged with Bally of Switzerland in the project direction of the new design concept of Chipperfield in London, in the project for rebuilding a villa in Valbonne on the French Riviera that was originally in typical Provence style and is set to be restyled according to the culture and spirit of its owners, a young Italian/English couple; the practice is also currently approaching architecture projects in the Milan Expo 2015 area.

Sergio A. Danese also carries out teaching activities at PoliDesign Bovisa, Department of Industrial Design of Milan Polytechnic University, as a lecturer in the DXA Master for foreign professionals whose Teaching Director is the architect Francesco Trabucco, a famous contemporary Italian designer: he is head lecturer of the contemporary international architecture course with a focus on the great works being developed in the city of Milan.

21architettura is mentioned in the books: WasteDown Prada 2009 Prada Transformer Seoul 2009, Bally Store Building Department Book 2013, on printed paper, the magazine Architettura of Il Giornale 2008 and La Stampa August 2013. Sergio Alberto Danese’s cultural and professional training grows and expands non-stop, through journeys focused on the knowledge of contemporary architecture and urban planning works or in the process of being built around the world through the membership of AIACE, the European chapter of A.I.A. USA, in contacts with Designers who are behind various projects, in the Mediterranean area and outside Europe.

A niche artistic activity is also carried out through painting, according to an abstract style on transparent surfaces, both acetate film and Plexiglas slabs: signs, colours, abstractions expressing sensations, thoughts, moods that indicate a deep and sincere sensory path open to all users. This has led to the participation in the exhibition entitled Art Power: Energy Ideas at Galleria Il Paradiso in the gardens of the Venice Triennale in 2011 organised by the European Council of Art. Today the practice is present in Milan, in Meina on the Piedmont shore of Lake Maggiore with its own offices, in partnerships in Antibes France with NDAR Naval Design Studio and FD Consultants in New York USA.
